Which operating systems are supported? The software is tested with Windows 98, Windows NT 4,0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. For Linux, software is available which supports querying the sensors at the serial and parallel port and which supplies measured values to the network. These can then be displayed with the clients described below (e.g.
SNMPView and MRTG, or the PCMeasure software for Windows.
How can I access the measured values over the network ? The only prerequisite is an IP connection between the computer to which the hardware is attached and on which the PCMeasure software runs, and the computers on which the measured values are to be displayed.
What can I use as client for the display of measured values? The easiest solution is to use the PCMeasure software (Windows version). Simply enter 'remote' as data source, and give the IP address of your PCMeasure server. This server can run either the Windows or the Linux version of PCMeasure. You can also display the measured values in a Web browser, or even build sections of the display into your own web pages. You can also use other software such as SNMPView, RRDTools or MRTG as client. The only prerequisite is an IP connection between the computer to which the hardware is attached and on which the PCMeasure software runs, and the computers on which the measured values are to be displayed. Additionally you can access the XML Files in which the measured values are stored.
Which IP port are used?
As standard, TCP port 4000 for the transfer of the data and TCP port 9999 for the inbuilt Web server are used. Both ports can be modified in the program.
Do the sensors have to be directly attached to the PC? No. The sensors have an RJ-45 plug connector, which is standard in today's networks. So it is no problem to distribute the sensors around the building and connect them to the computer running the PCMeasure software. Depending upon cable quality, up to 100 meters distance is possible. For future further
extension, inline amplifiers will be available, in order to increase this distance up to several kilometers.
Can several clients access a server?
Yes, that is easily possible. The data from a measuring point can be displayed at several points.
Can the PCMeasure client display data from several servers?
Yes, that is also possible. The PCMeasure client can display up to 12 measuring points, which can be distributed locally or remotely in the network. The software is completely freely configurable in this regard.
Can exceeding of threshold values be signaled by E-Mail or
SMS? Yes, sending e-mail, SMS, SNMP traps and syslog messages when threshold values are exceeded is possible from version 2.0 of the PCmeasure software for Windows.
What hardware do I need for the SMS dispatch? Nothing except an internet connection via port 80 (HTTP). This connection can also be made via a proxy or across a firewall. For the users of PCMeasure software an SMS gateway is available. There is no basic charge or monthly minimum: only the sent SMS are billed.
How do I get acces data for the SMS gateway? Simply e-mail sms@pcmeasure.com, We will send all the information by e-mail.
Can I test the SMS acces and its stability? No problem, we will be happy to create a free test access for PCMeasure users, with a number of free SMS messages. SMS dispatch is done via a commercial gateway and takes place generally within seconds, into almost all cell phone networks worldwide.
I would like to use the SMS gateway in own scripts or programs! Is that possible? No problem, just send an e-mail to sms@pcmeasure.com. Examples are available for integration into various programming languages, so the process should not be time-consuming.
How time-consuming is the configuration ? The basic configuration is very quick. You indicate which sensor is attached to which interface, and the sensor is regularly queried. Then you set which sensor is to be displayed on each of the 12 displays. That
concludes the basic configuration. All further adjustments concern visual presentation, e.g. the color of the display elements etc. What processor load does the software produce? This depends on the number of interfaces which are queried. Some empirical values:
Query of one COM interface under Windows 2000 on a Celeron 450: approx. 3% Query of two COM interfaces under Linux on a Pentium 90: approx. 2.5% Thus the software can run alongside other programs on a computer. How can I make my payment? We use PayPal to make the payment process simple and secure. You can use this service with Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover Credit Cards. You have no additional costs for this service.
Which countrys do you deliver to? We ship hardware and software to almost all countrys in the world. As service provider we use Deutsche Post AG, a large, established company which many partners worldwide.
Are there countries which experience problems with your hardware or software?
No. Our products use serial, parallel and USB interfaces from a standard PC. These interfaces are the same worldwide. The only difficulty that may arise is when you have no free USB port. In this case you may have a problem the with optional power source (30801), which is designed for European power networks (220V, 50Hz). The solution here is to install a second USB card or use a USB Hub.
What delivery time can I count on?
The hardware and software are generally immediately available, and will be dispatched within 4-5 days. The status of the individual items is also visible in the shopping cart. If for any reason there is a delay, you will be informed immediately by e-mail.
